Regola Bill Would End Conflicts of Interest

Would bar elected officials from serving on municipal authorities

As part of his ongoing reform efforts, Senator Bob Regola (R-39) is introducing a bill that would bar elected officials from serving on municipal authorities.

"Simply put, there is no way that one person can serve on two different municipal boards without conflicts of interests arising," said Senator Regola, Chairman of the Senate Local Government Committee.  "No matter how well-intentioned or civic minded a person may be, there are going to be times when he or she will find themselves in the difficult position of deciding between the best interest of the municipality and the authority.  My bill will end that once and for all."

The Third Class City Code currently contains a similar prohibition.  Senator Regola's legislation would apply to all types of municipalities.
