Regola Wants Expanded Tax Break for Disabled
Vets
Calls for property tax exemptions based on
level of disability
Senator Bob Regola (R-39) is introducing legislation calling for a state
constitutional amendment to expand the Property Tax Exemption Program for
Disabled Veterans.
Currently, an honorably discharged veteran must be 100 percent disabled to
receive a 100 percent exemption from property taxes. Senator Regola’s proposal
would provide tax exemptions to all disabled veterans at a percentage
corresponding to their level of disability, as determined by the U.S. Department
of Veterans Affairs.
“Under my proposal, veterans who are determined to be 100 percent disabled
will continue to be completely exempt from paying property taxes, while those
veterans considered 50 percent disabled would be exempt from paying half of their
property taxes,” said Sen. Regola.
“On this date (August 14th) in 1945, Japan surrendered to the United States
in World War II -- marking V-J Day,” said Sen. Regola. “We must never forget
their sacrifices for us. This measure is another way in which we can say thank
you to those men and women who were wounded or injured while serving our nation
and our Commonwealth.”
The constitutional amendment will be introduced as Senate Bill 1539.
