Senator Rhoades Statement on Governor's Veto of
SB 1247
HARRISBURG – Senator James J. Rhoades (R-29) issued the following statement
concerning the governor's veto of Senate Bill 1247, legislation that would have
closed a loophole that allows school districts to raise taxes on homeowners:
"A number of homeowners that I represent have been victimized by unfair tax
increases following the sale of a property, and it is unconscionable to expose
more homeowners to these tax increases in the future. If the Administration is
serious about enacting meaningful property tax reform, they should not veto
legislation that protects taxpayers from unwarranted property tax increases. The
governor has emphasized the need for property tax reform in numerous public
events over the past six years, and I am deeply disappointed that his actions do
not match his rhetoric."
Senate Bill 1247 passed the Senate 48-2 and the House of Representatives
196-7.
