Centennial Gala to Mark 100th Birthday of Pennsylvania's State Capitol

 

Event to Be the Culmination of a Week-Long Celebration

 

HARRISBURG -- Tickets are now available for the Centennial Gala marking the 100th birthday of Pennsylvania's State Capitol.  The culmination of a week-long celebration, the Gala will take place Wednesday, October 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Main Capitol Building and the East Wing (enter through the main entrance on Third Street).

 

The theme for the Centennial Gala is "Yesterday and Today."  A buffet dinner will be served and musical groups featuring the sounds of the past century will entertain in various areas of the Capitol.

 

The evening will culminate in a fireworks display.  Attire for the event is business dress.

 

Tickets to this special occasion are $25 for adults and $10 for children under 12.  Sales are limited.  To purchase tickets, send your name, address, daytime phone number, and the number of tickets you wish to purchase along with a check made out to: PA Capitol Centennial Foundation, Gala Tickets, 632 Capitol Building, Harrisburg, PA 17120 (deadline is Fri., Sept. 22).  Or, you may purchase tickets in person at the Capitol Shop in the East Wing Rotunda between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.  (After the mail-in deadline, tickets may only be purchased in person.)

 

Other upcoming events to mark the centennial include:

  • the Pennsylvania’s Treasures Parade around the Capitol complex at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, with former Philadelphia Eagle Vince Papale as Grand Marshal;

  • a Treasure Hunt and Kids Expo on the Capitol grounds from noon until 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 1;

  • an Ecumenical Church Service of Rededication at Grace United Methodist Church, 216 State Street, at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 1;

  • a Pennsylvania Politics Symposium in the House Chamber at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 2;

  • a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the newly constructed Rare Collections Library housed in the State Library of Pennsylvania, Forum Building, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3; and,

  • a Rededication Ceremony of the Capitol in front of the building, with a reenactor depicting President Theodore Roosevelt, at noon on Wednesday, October 4.
