Conti Elected Chairman of Senate Republican Caucus
HARRISBURG -- Senator
Joe Conti (R-10) was elected by his colleagues today to serve as chairman of the
Senate Republican Caucus for the remainder of his term in office.
Conti
succeeds
Senator Noah Wenger (R-36), who held the post for 18 years. Wenger will succeed
the late
Senator Robert Thompson
(R-19) as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
"This is a bittersweet time
for me because of Senator Thompson's passing," said Conti. "Senator Wenger is a
very wise, well-respected public servant, and I'm sure he'll do a tremendous job
as Appropriations Chairman."
The caucus chairman's
primary duties are to administer the Senate calendar, schedule committee
meetings and hearings, and oversee caucus sessions.
"I'd like to thank my
colleagues for giving me this opportunity to fill such an important role in the
caucus," Conti said. "I enthusiastically accept their support, and I look
forward to continuing our work in the Legislature.
"As always, I also want to
thank my constituents in the 10th Senatorial District for electing me, and for
allowing me to serve them in Harrisburg."
