PA Senate Republican
Multimedia Now Available Via RSS Feed
Audio & Video Clips
Provide Even More Access to News & Information from Harrisburg
HARRISBURG -- State
Senate Majority Leader David J. Brightbill (R-Lebanon) announced today that the
Pennsylvania Senate Republican Caucus has launched a multimedia RSS feed to help
constituents across the Commonwealth stay up-to-date about Senate action. Audio
and video clips will be available via the feed, supplementing the caucus'
existing news feed and weekly podcast.
"We want
to reach the people of Pennsylvania in a way that's timely and convenient, and
this technology certainly allows us to do that," said Sen. Brightbill's chief of
staff, Erik Arneson. "It also provides the statewide media with easy access so
reporters back home in a member's district can stay on top of what's happening
here in Harrisburg."
Arneson
noted that the multimedia feed will include audio and video clips of discussion
on the Senate floor, committee hearings, news conferences, and interviews with
individual members.
RSS
(Really Simple Syndication) feeds allow web users to access news and information
from their favorite websites in one place, called a "feed reader" or "news
aggregator." RSS feeds also can be viewed on XML-compatible devices such as a
cell phone, pager, or handheld computer. This same technology is what allows
podcasts and other multimedia files to be downloaded to audio devices or home
computers.
The Caucus
launched its weekly podcast last June and added the news feed in September.
Both have proven to be popular with constituents and the media, Arneson said.
"This
technology is revolutionizing the way information is disseminated and received,
and we're glad to be at the forefront of it," he said. "The new multimedia feed
will further enhance our ability to provide Pennsylvanians with up-to-date news
and analysis."
