Senate Committee to Hold Hearing at
University of Pittsburgh on Higher Education Issues
The Senate Appropriations Committee, chaired by Senator
Jake Corman (R-34), will hold the second of a series of public hearings on the
role of the Commonwealth's state-related universities on Monday, September
12, in Pittsburgh, PA. The hearing will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the
University of Pittsburgh's Alumni Hall, J.W. Connolly Ballroom, First Floor,
4227 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh PA.
The University of Pittsburgh is one of Pennsylvania's
four state-related universities, meaning that it receives state funds but is
independently operated. It shares this status with the Pennsylvania State
University, Temple University and Lincoln University.
Corman said the committee will hear testimony from
university officials on a variety of topics, including the impact of the state
budget on the university's operation.
"Our goal is to learn more about how the state-related
universities operate and their role in our higher education system," Corman
said. "Like our other institutions of higher learning, they have been forced to
do more with less during these difficult fiscal times – these hearings will give
the state-relateds an opportunity to talk about how they are meeting these
challenges."
